Stay or go? The imperfect storm
Last night's concert started with Nick Shoulders and DL indulging in some very talented navel gazing while picking strings, but unfortunately, the audience paid no attention due to background chatter and people walking around, which stopped us from enjoying it--if it were enjoyable that is.
The band then came on, with Nick Shoulders spotlighted while his band members played all solo with no apparent interaction or chemistry. These folks were just walking through the paces for yet another night on another tour.
The sound was poor, making the lyrics unintelligible (Jackson Brown without the lyrics? What's left?). Guitar solos? Just noise at best, sheer talent disguised by a total lack of sensitivity, feeling, and expression. But hats off to the Hammond B3 player; great job.
It is difficult to see people my generation pretending they are in their early 20's again, artificially rocking to every song and giving the band an undeserved standing "O" for every number. Come on, people! Turn off your blackberries and really listen instead of sending cellphone photos to the kids' babysitter. What will you do when something truly magic happens?
